Description
Experience the best of the Garden Route by enjoying the freedom of a self drive tour consisting of car rental and Guest House accommodation. Visit Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, The Crags, Storms River and Addo Elephant National Park or Port Elizabeth. Luxuriate in the natural beauty by wandering through winding forest pathways, take pleasure in a boat ride amongst the dolphins or touching a cheetah. Indulge your adventurous side with optional activities like Bloukrans Bungy, Waterfall Zipline Tour, Tree Top Canopy Tour, Segway Forest Tours and Black water Tubing. All in your own time on this unique self-drive tour.
All accommodation is in private en-suite rooms / units at carefully selected lodges in Knysna, Storms River and Addo. Quality, comfort and style are just some of our criteria for choosing the best.
On this tour you can decide to either go to Addo National Park (option 1) with self catering accommodation and wild animals, or end your tour in Port Elizabeth (option 2) with Guest House accommodation, sunny beaches and shopping malls.

Day 1
The tour commences with the collection of your rental car from George Airport. You follow the scenic N2 national highway, through the majestic passes, indigenous forests, crashing waves and towering hills, towards the lagoon-side town of Knysna.

Day 2
Spend your day in this historical and interesting town. Enjoy a ferry ride across Knysna Lagoon to Featherbed reserve where nature trails and a tractor ride awaits. The famous Knysna Heads are a must, have a bite to eat while admiring the beauty of ocean meeting land.
Two popular historic buildings in Knysna include the Belvidere and the St Georges churches built in the 1800’s.Some might fancy a tour of Mitchell’s Brewery with beer tasting and an oyster feast. Souvenier shopping at Knysna Waterfront where you’ll find interesting shops around each corner. For the agile – visit the castles at Noetzie - a conservancy with an alluring golden beach, classic styled castles and hills of forested beauty.

Day 3
Off you go by 10h00 towards Plettenberg Bay (a mere half an hour’s drive away). Relish a not-to-miss tea & cake at the famous Beacon Isle Hotel overlooking Formosa Bay with a view to take your breath away.Leave this lovely town about midday and drive towards The Crags on the N2 Highway. Here you will find a selection of activities from which to choose – carry a python around your neck, touch a cheetah, ride an elephant, feed amongst the birds or laugh at a naughty monkey stealing your hat!
By 17h00 it is time to move to your next accommodation in the quaint village of Storms River – 30 minutes’ drive away.

Day 4
Wake up to the sound of the chattering of forest birds and a feeling of relaxed tranquility. Enjoy a hearty breakfast and be ready for your day. Choose forest walks and visit the 800 year old Big Tree; hire a bicycle for forest cycling; participate in a tree canopy tour; go wild with Blackwater Tubing, Zip-line over waterfalls, try swinging in the trees with a Canopy Tour, jump off the highest bungy in the world or experience a gentle guided Segway forest tour.
Select one of the lovely restaurants across the road to dine, or have a true South African braai in the candle-lit lapa at your accommodation. For cooler evenings enjoy a crackling log fire in the comfortable guest lounge. Your bed calls for a second night’s stay in Storms River…

Day 5
Put on your hiking boots, for this day is booked for walking! The nearby Tsitsikamma National Park is not to be missed. Enjoy picturesque hikes along the rugged coastline; visit the suspension bridge across the river mouth; climb up to a viewpoint (for the fit and agile); hike the first day of the Otter Trail to the magnificent waterfall.
The famous fish & chips at the restaurant will refuel you while you keep an eye out for whales and dolphins. Swim, snorkel or scuba dive in the Indian ocean, enjoy a boat ride up the Storms River gorge or towards the beautiful waterfall. Relax on your last night in the unique Storms River Village.

Day 6
Option 1 - Addo Elephant Park
Off to Addo Elephant Park you go, continuing along the N2 highway towards Port Elizabeth. Today there will be 3 hours of driving before reaching your destination, Addo National Park. You will still be in time for a sunset game drive…Overnight in comfortable and secure accommodation in the wild African bush.

Option 2 - Port Elizabeth
With only an hour and 45min of driving booked for the day, enjoy a stop off at Jeffreys Bay - maybe take a surf lesson? or buy a souvenier at the Billabong factory shop. Enjoy your lunch at a restaurant overlooking the talented surfers in the waves. Arriving in Port Elizabeth you will love the holiday feel of this city with its beautiful beaches, shops and restaurants.

Day 7
Option 1
Choose to self drive or a guided game drive and see as many wild animals as possible! Remember to look carefully and behind every bush and tree – and please do not forget your camera!
Prepare for the last night of the tour and sleep well, with maybe a lion’s roar or a hyena’s chuckle lulling you to dreamland…

Option 2
Enjoy a day at the beach, do some souvenier shopping or drive out to one of the game reserves close by for a day in the wild.
Enjoy your last night of the tour and fall asleep with the sound of crashing waves leading you to dreamland...

Day 8
Today you bid a sad farewell to Addo / Port Elizabeth at the end of your tour. If you chose Addo, you will depart for Port Elizabeth (an hour’s drive). Today you return your rental car at the airport prior to your onward journey.
